It amazes me that 6 months have passed since I gave birth to Harvey. Granted, that momentous occasion would actually be marked on the 25th, but we're close enough.
He's been devouring jars of squash, green beans, peas, sweet potatos, bananas, peaches, pears, mixed vegetables, apples and carrots. Plain old oat and rice and barley cereals are no longer good enough food for him. Oh no. It must be accompanied by some for of fruit or vegetable. Preferrably a vegetable. And even more preferrably green beans or sweet potatos. Although we introduced him to the mixed vegetable flavour today, and he certainly enjoyed it enough that, just based on reaction, I could place it as his new favourite.
He's also learning that he can make himself move. Not quite crawling, but he manages to wiggle himself around, backwards usually. At least on his belly he's mastered the art of a rock and push that will generally move him backwards or in a circle. When on his back he's figure out a way to rock his feet so that he ends up looking like a break dancer or an inch worm. He just doesn't move with the sapce speed or grace.
The other day I was attempting to adjust the new car seat we purchased for him. It was set up as an infant would need it, Harvey is hardly an infant these days. Unofficially (by our standards not the doctor's) he's around 19.8 pounds and 29.5 inches long. He's also wearing 6 to 12 months clothing, although even some of that no longer fits, and I have had to bump him up to 12 to 18 month PJs. That's no infant sized kid. Anyway, I was playing with his car seat, trying to follow the oh-so-clear instructions for removing various parts. I look over and Harvey's laying on his mat next to me, maybe less than 6 inches away (his arm would occasionally bump my leg). We coo and shriek and make some noise then I turn back to my task. Time passes, as it passes I occasionally call out noises to Harvey, who is still making all sorts of happy noises just to my left. Finally after about 30 minutes I get the damned seat figured out. Once finished with it I look to my left to coo to Harvey and show him how smart mommy is. He's not there. He's managed to move himself about 3 feet to my left. He seemed quite proud of himself. Every once in a while I put him down on the floor and he repeats that performance.
Along with the growing up, Harvey has begun teething. No actual noticable teeth, but he responds well to Orajel and Tempra, it's obvious it's his teeth. Every once in a while you can feel his teeth coming up, but they once again recede into the nether regions of his gums. With teething has come poor sleeping, a lot of crankiness and unconsolable screaming late at night. Ah well, it is just a phase. One that last a long long time.
He is, however, beginning to really bloom when it comes to reaction during play time. The laughter, the smiles, the looks of excitement. It's tiring but rewarding.
[this is good]
